Firmenbriefkopf FfM, den 22. Febr. 1939

Lieber Martin.

Wie aus deinem Schreiben ersehe, geht es dir gut, was G. L. auch von uns berichten kann. Deine Briefe Nr. 126 und 127 kamen kurz hintereinander an. Seit letztem Freitag ist die Tochter von Frau Kossmann bei uns und hörten wir, dass es mit der Einreise nach Belgien nichts ist; man kann dorten höchsten für 3-4 Wochen unterkommen und ist damit nichts getan. Jetzt will (ich) es mal nach Frankreich versuchen und mit Jacob in Verbindung setzen. Du meinst immer, ich sollte ans Consulat gehen. Dies hat keinen Werth, solange (ich) keine Einladung nach dorten und die Garantie für meinen dortigen Lebensunterhalt habe. Ebenso ist es mit England. Heute mittag kommen Levy´s zu uns, die im Mai nach Engl(and). Gehen.

Salo(mon) Feitler und Frau gingen heute nach Frankreich, von da nach Engl.(and) - und von dorten nach U.S.A.

Du schriebst schon öfters wegen der Bürgschaft von dir und Harry. Ich habe dir doch längst geschrieben und mich auch bei Harry bedankt, dass dieselbe bei der United States aufbewahrt ist oder meinst du, ich solle sie nach Hause nehmen? Ich denke, dass sie dorten gut aufgehoben ist. Ich werde jetzt bei der Devisenstelle versuchen, dir wenigstens einen Teil deiner Ausstattung schicken zu dürfen. Am nächsten Mittwoch (28. II.) ist Onkel Salomon, Hanna und Ruth nach Stuttgart bestellt.

Am Sonntag will (ich) die Brettener besuchen, die sich beide nicht wohl fühlen. Alb(ert) schrieb, dass er die Bürgschaft für seine Frau hätte, aber für die Kinder noch nicht.

Alice Kossmann wird dir von zu Haus schreiben. Sei herzl. gegrüsst von deinem Vater.

Ich weiss heute nicht viel zu berichten. Sonntag, Montag waren Sig. und Rosel hier, um sich mit meiner Tochter zu besprechen; jeder will etwas von draussen hören. Morgen kommt Frau Kaufmann über Sonntag zu uns und so wird das Haus nicht leer. Gestern abend waren alle bei Levysteins eingeladen, die Herrn gehen nach England vorerst und dann, wenn die Nr. kommt nach U.S.A. Vater ist recht vergnügt mit unserem Besuch. Dear Martin,

As I can tell from your letter, you are well, and so are we, thank God. Your letters No. 126 and 127 arrived shortly one after the other. Since last Friday the daughter of Mrs Kossmann is visiting here and we heard, that going to Belgium will not work. You can stay there max. 3-4 weeks and that’s nothing. Now I want to try France and contact Jacob. You always suggest I should go to the Consulate. But this is pointless as long as I do not have an invitation and an offer for sponsorship from there. The same goes for England. Today the Levy’s come see us; they are going to London in May. Salomon and Mrs Feitler left for France today – from there to England and then to the U.S.A.

You wrote many times about the affidavit from you and Harry. I have replied to you long ago and thanked Harry that the affidavit is kept at the United States; or do you think I should take it home with me? I think they are taking good care of it there. I’ll try at the currency office to get permission to send you some of your things. Next week (Feb 28) Uncle Salomon, Hanna and Ruth have their appointment in Stuttgart. On Sunday I’ll go to Bretten: both are not feeling well. Albert wrote he had the sponsorship for his wife but not yet for the children.

There is not much to tell you today. Sunday and Monday Sig. and Rosel visited to talk with my daughter; everybody wants news from abroad. Tomorrow Mrs Kaufmann comes, to stay until Sunday so the house won’t be empty at least. Last night all went to see the Levystein’s who go to England at first, and then when they get their Nr., to the USA. Father enjoyed our visit. Warm greetings from Johanna Kossmann
